This blog is derived from letters home from Paul Hills during the first World War. They begin in April 1917, just after the United States declared war, when he joined a volunteer ambulance unit attached to the French army.

Meet the Bloggers
This blog is a collaborative effort between Paul Hills' son, William Hills, and his granddaughter Carol Hills. The letters have been kept (attached) in scrapbooks since World War 1. William Hills is doing the heroic work of transcribing the letters and going through photos his father took during the war. Eventually we will post a selection of the photos and scans of some of the old letters.
How this Blog Works
These letters are posted chronologically. It works best to start at the beginning by consulting the archive. The letters begin in April 1917 when Paul Hills wrote home from college to ask his mother's permission to join the ambulance service in France. Each one is being posted to the date they were written, ninety years ago.
